HTML5 and mobile browsers

Wednesday, May 30th, 2007

Writing my previous post on the button element and mobile browsers got me thinking about HTML5 and how it will work with mobile web browsers.

I know all the major browser vendors (Microsoft, Mozilla, Opera and Apple) are onboard with HTML5, and they are also the major mobile browsers vendors (well Opera, Microsoft and Apple via its’ webkit being used by Nokia are), but will HTML5 be they implemented for mobile web browsers and how?

Time to stop using the button element

The button element was rediscovered by Kevin Hale of Wufoo and Particletree fame and while reading through the post, thinking I gave you feedback during the Wufoo beta about the button element and it took you this long to see its’ advantages. I started reading the comments, one comment from Russell Beattie stopped me in my tracks.

Or at least the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) Working Group are. I have just reading the latest changes to the WCAG 2.0 last call draft and I am impressed, it looks like a lot of mine and other people’ concerns have been address. It requires further reading, but it looks like a big improvement over the last draft.

moblogging, wordpress and a dopod 838pro

Wednesday, May 23rd, 2007

It is easy, I am blogging while waiting for my lunch. But it also has a few challenges, wordpress is not pretty or intuitive on IE on WM5, the keystroke combinations to enter HTML is painful, cutting and pasting from other windows difficult, but it can be done, so expect more mobloggig from me.

Good things come in threes

Wednesday, May 23rd, 2007

Well that is the old saying, and in the past few days three good things have happened.

  1. Web Directions South 2007 announced their line up, and that included a workshop on Mobile Web Design and Development with Brian Fling.
  2. OZ-IA is on again this year, the weekend before Web Directions South, nothing has been announce but I have been assured by Eric Schied it is on.
  3. Three added the Dopod 839pro to their X-series, I am now properly connected.

Photoblog to hibernate

Wednesday, May 23rd, 2007

I started the photoblog on January 1 with the intention of taking and posting a photo a day. After a few weeks the posting became a little erratic, I would take photos on a daily basis, then post a photo from each day a couple of times each week. This went quite well until the end of February …

After owning this phone for three months, it is about time I expressed my opinion on what has been my constant companion for the past three months.
