Opacity vs RGBA at web mixed grill

My contribution to Web Mixed Grill (think the Australian version of 24ways, no snow, mulled wine and roast venison here, it is all beaches, cold beer and BBQs) on the Opacity and RGBA has been published.

It was written fairly quickly (for me) after 24ways was launched, which showed off RGBA to the Firefox 3 and Safari 3 crowd. The problem with the initial 24ways site was what it looked like in IE and Opera. While 24ways now looks much better in IE, it still looks um crap in Opera.

So I wrote a brief piece on using Opacity, RGBA or 24bit PNGs background images to achieve that semi-opaque look. I will post examples soon, but the article is enough to get idea of the issues and techniques that can be used.
