West Coast Masters
C Grade Road Race
Wandi
25 May 2014

After my last WCMCC race, where I rode at the back of the bunch for almost the whole race, I was going to ride close to the front for as much as possible. Especially seeing it was a strong westerly, other than the climb up Bodeman Road was into a headwind, the rest of the race was in crosswinds, which was going to make the gentle climb up the exposed Lyon Road interesting.

West Coast Masters
C Grade Road Race
Herne Hill
18 May 2014

Another week, another issue with the power meter, looks like I put an almost flat battery in last week. It lasted Sunday’s warmup and 20km TT. But today it was dead, still it did not matter I can race by HR seeing I am off beta blockers and I had last week’s data to go on. I can ride at HR of 175 for over 15 minutes.

PDDC C grade
Dog Hill circuit Baldivis
10 May 2014

I had not trained or ridden since Monday, so I was looking to take it easy, particularly as it was the biggest group of the year so far with 20 riders. Also just after the finish line, a land owner was burning off, which meant preventive use of Ventolin every lap.

3 May 2014

I had not ridden all last week, I was trying to shake a cold I picked up last weekend. So I did not know what to expect from my body. My big aim after last week was to sit back and survive the first couple laps and take it from there.

PDCC Road Race
Serpentine
26 April 2014
C grade

… So I had no choice, I was racing C grade. I was going to anyway, but I was expecting to be one of the weaker riders in C. Instead I was told by one of the people involved in the grading I was considered the mid point of the new C grade …

Stan Gurney VC Memorial Criterium
Midland Cycle Club
Open D grade
25 April 2014

I rode this race last year, it was a tight circuit with two hotdog turns. Unfortunately, in a big field, I started third row, the rider in front failed to clip in and my race was over by the first corner. I did manage to make it to the second group and used the hotdog turns to move up, until the last lap the rider in front of me crashed. I avoided him, lost all momentum and finished at the back of the second group.

West Coast Masters CC
C grade
Kewdale
13 April 2014

The last race of the season had a bigger field than last week with close to 25 riders. I was using the race to sharpen my skills and improve my race tactics.

Still criterium racing

West Coast Masters CC
C grade
Kewdale
6 April 2014

The West Coast Masters criterium season starts and ends a couple of weeks after the PDCC criterium season. So I was heading back to Kewdale to see if with my new found cornering confidence, I could improve from my early season performances and finish in the bunch.
