WCMCC C grade
Dog Hill
22 June 2014

My last few races have seen me finishing off the back of the bunch, for a number of reasons, including suffering from a mild cold for the last couple of weeks. My last few rides, have had me stiff and sore including four laps of the same course the day before this race. After the PDCC was called off due to a storm and a few brave/crazy souls rode a few training laps.

I went into the race with a simple aim, finish with the bunch. The race started in the rain, and for the first lap and a half I rode mid pack. …

WCMCC
Club Memorial Handicap
Herne Hill
16 June 2014

I like grade handicaps, because it forces me to ride in the bunch (instead of on the front or at the back), taking turns and as a result improving my bunch riding skills and confidence.

So I was happy to be riding with 30 others. It would be a fast paced race, with only short turns, plenty of time to recover and with Bob a very experienced rider directing us.

PDCC C grade
Wandi
14 June 2014

It was the biggest field for PDCC C grade this year, 21 riders. A few new faces and a couple riders from B grade easing themselves back into racing after illness or injury. I went into the race with a single aim, to put in a decent attack every lap once we past the halfway mark. The larger than usual field or new faces was not going to stop me.

The first couple of laps, I sat at the back …

C grade scratch
WCMCC
Pickering Brook
8 June 2014

After racing on Saturday and deciding to be more aggressive, what do I do racing on Sunday. The first few laps I sit at the back just watching and waiting. Actually it was more learning a course I was unfamiliar with and getting more confident with a fast descent and a couple of corners. Also as there were fires dotted around the course, the back was safest place, so I could regularly use on my asthma medication.

C grade scratch
PDCC
Serpentine
7 June 2014

Another race, another total lack of warm up. At least there were no hills and I knew the course.

Halfway down Gull road and I was on the front riding hard, While I am not the best cornerer, sometimes on purpose I will take a corner poorly. The corner into Rapids road, was one example of them. Gary came round the outside, so I slowed into the corner then punched hard out of it and waited for the reaction. There was, a couple of the stronger riders were out of the saddle chasing Gary’s wheel, then everybody slowed.

Not a good day to climb

Dwellingup Handicap
PDCC
31 May 2014

I was questioning why I wanted to race as I drove to Dwellingup, to put it mildly I was feeling crap. Not helped by jarring my right shoulder the day before. The collarbone I broke 5 months earlier was painful and my movements restricted. I was not going to be able to get out the saddle to climb, and with 6 kilometres of climbing at an average of 3%, with a kilometre of over 6% and pinches of over 10%, it was going to be interesting.
