Why am I not naked today

Wednesday, April 5th, 2006

Yes I know it is Annual CSS Naked Day and this site is still clothed. Even though there has been heaps of hype information about it, I foget all about it till I opened bloglines this morning.
And even if I wanted to remove the stylesheet now, I can not access that part of my site.

Hell if you want to see this site naked, you just need to disable the CSS in your Web Developer Toolbar in Firefox or Mozillia or in your
Developer Toolbar in Internet Explorer …

Flash buttons

Friday, March 31st, 2006

What surprised me from last night presentation, was was people’s positive reaction to using flash in buttons. (Note the flash button was remove from the front page because I did quick job of adding it and the latest version of IE6 want you to press a button every time flash displayed on a page in the normal way).

Perth WSG March meet

Saturday, March 25th, 2006

Another event to plug, you will find the offical information over on the Web Standards Group and organiser Kay provides more details on her standards blog, including almost saying nice things about me ;-).

I will be doing a presentation on the button element, going into more detail that what I have already done here. Do not worry if you are not located in this obscure corner of the world called Perth, Western Australia. I will post the presentation here and the scary part is that it should be podcast as is happening with most WSG events.

Hacking phpBB templates

Sunday, March 12th, 2006

Frustration is trying to get a phpBB forum to look like it belongs with WordPress blog, by modifying a phpBB template.

The original concept for the Peel District Mountain Bike Club website was a WordPress blog, with the ever popular Connections theme and a custom header graphic. It took me less than forty minutes to set up and most of that time was spent doing a custom header graphic. Adding a forum was the next step …

IE7 beta2

Sunday, February 19th, 2006

I thought it was about time I took a spin with IE7 beta2. The reason to see how the sites I built in the last couple of years looked in IE7 and what remedial work was required.

I was pleasantly surprised …

phpBB templates

Thursday, February 16th, 2006

Helping set up a web site for the Peel Districts Mountain Bike Club, … the club also wanted a forum, …, I chose phpBB, easy to install and getting running with a heap of templates to choose from. Everything was running smoothly until it came time to customise the forum and website to look seamless. Every phpBB template I looked at was table based. Which is a problem for me:…

A quick tutorial in elastic faux columns, so Faruk Ates does not have to write one and can concentrate on writing stuff I need to read.
