One of Australia’s Top 100 Influential Twitterers

Tuesday, October 21st, 2008

Well for the time being. Monday morning saw a flood of email announcing new followers. I quickly traced it back to Australia’s Top 100 Influential Twitterers. I was surprised to see myself as number 62. Since that time my ranking slowly dropping, as more Australia twitterati are discovered. Currently I am number 85, and probably by the end of the week I will no longer be one of Australia’s Top 100 Influential Twitterers, but that is no loss. I will keep using twitter the way I have been.

ACMA report into ISP level filtering

Thursday, August 7th, 2008

The ACMA last week released a report into the ISP level filtering. I have been spending to much time on FriendFeed communicating with Americans and missed the release of this report. Note to self, open your feed reader more often.

I have managed to keep quiet on internet censorship, mainly because others like Stilgherrian have been doing a good job of providing unbiaised information on the issues. Then I tried to read what was attempting to masquarade as a through scientific report, is was too much.

TransPerth customer service FAIL

Wednesday, July 30th, 2008

I might be fan of the TransPerth web presence. However, their customer service failed for me big time tonight. Working late, I caught the 1935 train home from Perth, so I could connect with the 541 bus from Wellard station to drop me off outisde my house. The trip went well until the train attempted […]

Cuil ain’t no Google, right now

cuil search engine screen capture

There was some noise on FriendFeed yesterday afternoon, about the new search engine on the block, Cuil (pronounced cool). There was enough noise, that Read Write Web wondered How Did Cuil Get So Much Publicity the answer in pedigree ex-Googlers with IBM’s Web Fountain and Altavista background.

So like many others, I went and checked it out …

Goodbye Newsgator, hello Feedly

Sunday, June 22nd, 2008

In the past few days since it’s release Feedly has been generating a huge buzz, a quick look for Feedly on Summize(Twitter search engine) gives you an idea of the impact this extension for Firefox 3 has had on early adopters in that time.
Up until the beginning of this year, I was using Bloglines as my […]

A quick history of conversation on the web

Sunday, June 22nd, 2008

Conversation has been a hot topic on the web recently, with TechCrunch, Duncan Riley, Alex van Elsas and Julian Baldwin amongst others. The main concern seems to be that new comments solutions are taking the conversation away from the originating web page. The opposing view is that conversation in the real world it is fragmented. With different people joining and leaving the conversation at different times.

This got me thinking about …

On my way home meme take 2

Tuesday, June 17th, 2008

After getting tagged again by Ruth and speaking to Miles who was visiting the State Library to work on his special project. I decided to have a second go at the On my way home meme. This time a more typical trip home, by train and bike, last Friday.

Leaving the library on a Friday evening, […]

Twitter, Plurk and FriendFeed as discussion tools.

Sunday, June 15th, 2008

Following up from my previous post on Conversation vs Noise. This is about carrying out discussions, this is not about status updates like “I just had baked beans on toast for dinner”, nor is it about the reliability of the service (given Twiiter&#8217s recent problems). This is purely about using the service to carry out conversations with intelligent people, yes there are people like that on the internet.
