My way home meme

Tuesday, June 10th, 2008

Ben tagged me with the my way home meme, and being busy last week, I ignored my feed reader until the weekend. I had originally thought I should do it in reverse, take the photos on my way to work and reverse them, because I start work late and return home late in the dark at this time of year. I also chose to take the photos last Monday, which was one of the few stormy days of the year and instead of riding my pushbike to the train station, I took the bus. So here is my trip home on a stormy winter night.

Do I want one of those brand new 3G iPhone, YES. But I will wait until what will and see what is going to happen with the offers by all the major telcos in Australia, before committing…

BarCamp Perth 2.0

Thursday, April 24th, 2008

After the buzz of last year barcamp in Perth and hearing so much about the recent Barcamp Sydney 3 and the initial Barcamp Canberra, I am so looking forward to another barcamp in Perth.
Well my prayers have been answered. BarCamp Perth 2.0 is on May 10 at Central TAFE, 140 Royal St, East Perth. Over [...]

A matter of timing

Yesterday, I finally posted on ENABLEnet, the free wifi at the State Library. I did mention that it had been reliable and asked for feedback on your experiences. Well guess what, today it had problems. …

Free wifi at the WA State Library

ENABLEnet is in theory still in trial mode and has not been publicly launched, but has been running quietly for the past two months. Being open to discovery and word of mouth has resulted in over 150 sessions a day in the past few weeks. As many people use the wifi on Fridays, weekends and public holidays when the library is open for fewer hours as they do during the week.

There is an interesting mix of devices connecting …

Mr Squiggle visits SLWA

Tuesday, April 1st, 2008

Bill SteamShovel

For those of you old enough to remember Mr Squiggle. He and his friends are visiting the State Library of Western Australia this month.

Be warned part of the display area has be turned into a classic early 70’s lounge room complete with a colour scheme that looks like it was taken from this blog. So you can watch Mr Squiggle reruns in natural surroundings (and no I did not design it).

Leopard and Merlin XU870

Tuesday, October 30th, 2007

I have yet to purchase my copy of Leopard, but from a couple of comments on one of my previous posts on the XU870 and Tiger upgrades. It appears that upgrading to Leopard also breaks XU870 support outside the US for the unwary.

I found a helpful post of a German Mac users Google group. Roughly translated (courtesy of Google translator):

PodCamp Perth 2007

Tuesday, October 30th, 2007

I came, I saw, I learnt, I presented and throughly enjoyed myself, even if over too quickly.

The most surprising thing, was that while the first PodCamp in Australia was supposed to of been organized by Adam Purcell and Jared Madden. I met them early in the day, but they disappeared into the crowd and did not even present. The organizing of PodCamp Perth 2007 seemed to be handled by Bronwen (of PerthNorg fame) and Simone (of EnjoyPerth fame), with the help of a large number of Perth people.

WebJam Sydney

Thursday, October 11th, 2007

My second WebJam was interesting event. Held after WDS07 on a Saturday evening, in front of a couple hundred people. What was interesting was the line up of speakers. The biggest surprise for me was the limited number of local speakers, there was three international speakers Andy Clarke, Aaron Gustafson and Chaals from Opera, add to that the WA contigent of me and Myles and you had I think 9 locals.
