Gaining Knowledge vs. Inspiration : WD06 postscript

Tuesday, October 10th, 2006

At the most recent port80 meet, Myles talked about the lack of cutting edge presentations at WD06 and that while AJAX, APIs and microformats presentations where good, he was already using them on a regular basis and was hoping for something new and exciting.

Which got thinking about what I got from WD06 and was it better to gain knowledge or be inspired about a subject …

I survived WD06 and OZIA and enjoyed every minute

Monday, October 2nd, 2006

Two days of WD06 workshops, two days of WD06 proper, two days of OZIA conference and seven nights of drinking social networking. What can I say that has not be blogged about by others, so here are the personal highlights in rough chronological order.

I am a Web Connections whore

Monday, October 2nd, 2006

One of the interesting facets of WD06 was Web Connections. A social networking tool produced by Tim Lucas and Cameron Adams to allow attendees to contect up and tag each other. I ended up in the most popular list, mainly because with 15 members of the Perth Port80 posse at WD06, we all had a big number of established connections.

Even without wifi access for the workshop days, I attempted to connect to the people I met. This earned me a web connection whore stickers from Andrew K. and Ben Buchan, but connecting paid dividends…

The web is not a power drill

Friday, September 29th, 2006

A direct quote from Andy Clarke, his presentation was the one that has got me thinking the most at WD06. Particularly about this blog, I know I need to fix my typography and javascript. Durring the social networking last night, I was given a solution to my flash and OsX flashplayer problem, so I was ready to do so refining work to this blog, but Any got me thinking, so stay tuned …

WD06 so far

Thursday, September 28th, 2006

I made it to Web Directions 06 and have survived two workshops and three nights of networking. The conference proper starts today. …

Web Connections 06

Thursday, September 21st, 2006

I am surprised by the number of people I know or read their blogs of who will be attending Web Directions. Cameron Adams and Tim Lucas created Web Connections 06 to connect the people attending WD06. Of the forty odd people who have connected so far, I have met half of them, from sitting next to them at WE05 and exchanging business cards (Kevin Yank), to going to school with a couple of decades back (Gary Barber). If you are going to WD06, go and connect it is an good little app, even if my profile has ceased to function

1600 21 September, the ruby monkeys put my profile back ;-) it was only for 10 minutes or so and only my profile, everybody else’s I checked worked fine.
